What a licence covers
One licence covers one product. If you buy a theme and a module, that is two licences.
A licence is tied to production domains. Local copies, staging sites and development environments are unlimited and are never counted.
The three licence types
Single site
One production domain. You may use the product on one live website, whether for yourself or for one client. Development and staging copies are unlimited.
Agency
Up to five production domains. You may deliver the resulting websites to clients and hand over the source as part of that delivery. Your client may operate and modify the site they received; they may not redistribute the product itself.
Extended
Up to fifty production domains within one organisation or group, by agreement. Intended for groups operating many sites under common ownership.
What you may do
- Install the product on the number of production domains your licence allows.
- Keep unlimited local, staging and development copies.
- Read, modify and extend the source code however you wish.
- Use it for commercial work and charge your clients for that work.
- Hand the modified site to the client it was built for, under an Agency or
- Extended licence.
- Keep using the version you have, indefinitely, even after a licence is
- revoked or a support plan lapses.
What you may not do
- Resell, redistribute, sublicense or give away the product, modified or not,
- as a product in its own right.
- Publish the source code anywhere public, including public repositories.
- Use one licence across more production domains than it allows.
- Offer the product as a template, theme or starter kit on any marketplace.
- Operate a service that lets third parties generate sites from the product
- without each of them holding a licence.
- Remove or alter copyright notices in the source.
- Share your licence key outside your own organisation.
Moving a licence between domains
Sites move. Release the domain from your site's admin panel and activate on the new one. Each licence allows a number of such moves; if you run out because of a genuine migration, ask us and we will reset the counter.
Modifying the source
You may change anything. Two consequences follow, and neither is a penalty:
- Modified areas are outside support, as described in the
- Support Policy.
- An update may overwrite your changes. Keep modifications in the extension
- points provided, and keep a record of what you changed.
The licence key
Your installation checks its key periodically. If our licence service is unreachable, your site continues to work normally on a cached result — a problem at our end will never take your site down.
The check reports the domain, the product and the version. It does not send your content, your customer data, or your database.
Ownership
CodDesk keeps the copyright in the product. You own the content, data, configuration and any code you write yourself.
If this agreement is broken
We may revoke the licence. Revocation ends your right to use the product and stops updates, downloads and support. Redistribution without a licence is copyright infringement and is dealt with as such.
Duration
The licence is perpetual for the version you bought, unless revoked for a breach or a reversed payment.
