How to choose a car dealership website template: 7 checks before you buy
A practical checklist for dealers and car brands comparing ready-made website templates: inventory, enquiries, languages, hosting and licence.
A template saves weeks of work, but only if it matches how your business actually sells. Cars are a good example: a dealer with 200 used vehicles and an importer showing a new model range need very different websites. Use these seven checks before you pay for anything.
1. Decide what you are really selling
Start with one sentence: "Customers come to my site to ___."
- Browse and compare individual vehicles in stock. You need searchable inventory and detailed vehicle listings.
- Explore a model range and book a test drive. You need model pages, offers and enquiry forms.
- Work out what they can afford. You need a payment tool that turns interest into a lead.
If your answer is the first one, look at a dealership template. If it is the second, look at a brand template.
2. Match the template type to your business
CodDesk's automotive catalog separates the two on purpose:
- Vehicle Dealership is a dealership website with searchable vehicle inventory, detailed listings, promotions, showroom locations and customer enquiries, all managed from one admin portal.
- Brand templates such as Marque, AUTOVANE, Axlora and VELTRAIL are built around models, offers, showrooms, owner pages and enquiries for a car brand or importer.
3. Check how enquiries reach your team
A pretty website that loses enquiries is worse than a plain one that answers them. Ask:
- Where does a customer enquiry go, and who is notified?
- Can you manage offers, showrooms and listings yourself, without a developer?
- Is there one admin area, or several tools to learn?
4. Think about languages and reading direction
If your customers read Arabic, a right-to-left layout is not optional. A page that is only translated, but still laid out left-to-right, looks broken. Among the CodDesk brand templates, VELTRAIL offers English and Arabic with a right-to-left layout. Check the product page of any template you consider for language support.
5. Look at the hosting it needs
The CodDesk automotive templates are Laravel websites. In practice that means PHP 8.3 or newer and a MySQL or MariaDB database. Before you buy, confirm your hosting offers both. Our guide on what your hosting needs to run a Laravel website template explains what to ask.
6. Make sure you get the source code
With a ready-made template you should receive the full source code, so your developer can change anything and you are not locked in. CodDesk licences include full source code and lifetime updates. Read the licensing page and decide which licence fits: see Single Site, Agency or Extended licence.
7. Read the refund and support terms first
Before paying, check:
- Refunds. CodDesk refunds in full within 14 days of purchase, as long as the product has not been downloaded and the licence has not been activated.
- Support. Free support is included for a limited period (3 months on Single Site and Agency licences, 6 months on Extended), after which annual support plans are optional.
A quick way to decide
| If you... | Start with |
|---|---|
| Sell many individual vehicles from stock | Vehicle Dealership |
| Present a model range for a brand or importer | Marque, AUTOVANE, Axlora or VELTRAIL |
| Want visitors to estimate a monthly payment | Add the Payment Planner module |
You can browse every product, with prices and features, in the CodDesk catalog.
Frequently asked questions
Should a dealer pick a dealership theme or a brand theme?
Pick a dealership theme if you sell many individual vehicles and need searchable inventory. Pick a brand theme if you present a model range and offers, such as a brand or importer.
Do I need a developer to install a template?
Some templates, such as Marque, can be installed from the browser. Others are uploaded to your hosting and configured, so check each product page before you buy.
Can I add a monthly payment calculator later?
Yes. Payment Planner is a separate module that estimates monthly payments and sends each calculation to your team as a lead.
