What your hosting needs to run a Laravel website template
PHP version, database, and the questions to ask your hosting provider before buying a Laravel-based website template.
You found a template you like. Before you pay, spend ten minutes checking that your hosting can run it. Most failed installs come from a hosting plan that is too old, not from the template.
What a Laravel template is
CodDesk's automotive templates are websites built with Laravel, a widely used PHP framework, with a database behind them and an admin area to manage content. Product pages list the technology each template uses: for example, Laravel 13, PHP 8.3 and MySQL or MariaDB.
The three things to check
1. PHP version
The templates are built for PHP 8.3 or newer. In your hosting control panel, look for a PHP version selector. If your plan only offers an older version, ask the provider to upgrade it or choose a different plan.
2. Database
You need a MySQL or MariaDB database. Almost every shared and VPS plan includes one. Note the database name, username and password: the installer asks for them.
3. Your own domain and HTTPS
Your website should run on your own domain with an SSL certificate (HTTPS). Customers hesitate to send enquiries from a site that browsers mark as not secure.
Questions to ask your hosting provider
- Do you support PHP 8.3 or newer on my plan?
- Can I create a MySQL or MariaDB database?
- Is a free SSL certificate included?
- Can I upload a ZIP and extract it on the server?
- How do I take backups, and can I restore them myself?
Installing
Some CodDesk templates, such as Marque, can be installed from the browser, so you do not need command-line access to start. Always read the installation notes on the product page you are buying.
Keep a staging copy
Your licence allows unlimited staging and local copies, so test changes on a copy first and only then update your live website. Read the licence options before you decide.
Quick checklist
- PHP 8.3 or newer
- MySQL or MariaDB database
- Your own domain with HTTPS
- Ability to upload and extract files
- Backups you can restore
When all five are ticked, browse the CodDesk catalog and choose your template.
